Coming off the back of my Action Movie FX era, I craved to go even further down the visual-effects rabbit hole. The thing about Action Movie FX was that it did all the work for you. You filmed yourself as this blank canvas, and it inserted some epic calamity over top of you. However, it couldn’t emit any visual effects upon you. That is, I wanted me to be the object that the effects were enacted upon. Unfortunately, a lot of apps at the time didn’t allow this, at least not without even young me thinking they looked corny.
So, I turned to my Dad (who fortunately had access to the Adobe Creative Suite), and he introduced me to how to use a camcorder, how to set it up on a tripod, and then how to import my footage into Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. My goal? To make myself fly. And, after following many YouTube tutorials to a tee, this was the result of my first ever visual effect produced solely by 13 year-old Owen.
